Boeing, SAMSAT Expanding Geekbus STEM Club to Serve More Low-Income Students in San Antonio

WHAT

This San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) is teaming up with Boeing, the Opportunity Home San Antonio and Port San Antonio to double the number of locations and students it serves through its Geekbus STEM Club. To celebrate, the Mission Neighborhood Community Center is hosting a Geekbus tour for students and residents on Wednesday, Sept. 25, to get a sneak peak of the innovative STEM programs coming to their doorstep.

The Geekbus is a mobile makerspace that provides STEM educational experiences. Thanks to a $100,000 grant from The Boeing Company and support from the Opportunity Home San Antonio and Port San Antonio, Geekbus is expanding to reach 1,440 students in multiple classes over the school year. It offers 18 different STEM curricula including 3-D modeling, coding, video game design, robotics and more.

“Our partnership with The Boeing Company and the Opportunity Home San Antonio, and the support we receive from Port San Antonio, makes us a stronger organization,” said Dr. Cliff Zintgraff, executive director of SAMSAT. “These partnerships give us greater reach into the community, and as a result, more K-12 students learn about STEM topics and the rewarding careers available right here in our community.”

“We are thrilled that one of our leading customers and one of our leading educational partners have come together to make a big impact in the future of young people throughout our community,” said Port San Antonio President and CEO Jim Perschbach.
