Guzman Elected Chair by Board of Commissioners
Weaver re-elected as Vice-Chair

The Opportunity Home San Antonio’s (Opportunity Home) Board of Commissioners elected Dr. Ana Margarita “Cha” Guzman to serve as the new Chair of the Board. Commissioner Jessica Weaver was re-elected as Vice-Chair of the Board of Commissioners.
Guzman has been a national leader in education for the past 30 years. She previously served as president of Sante Fe Community College (SFCC) from September of 2012 to 2014. She also served as President of Palo Alto College (PAC) for 12 years. Under her leadership, PAC garnered millions of dollars in federal and state grants and was chosen to establish the first recovery high school in the State of Texas by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Additionally, 14 new programs were established and 28 additional certificate programs were submitted to the US Department of Education for approval for Pell Eligibility.
“I am humbled to be elected chair to help strengthen Opportunity Home’s mission of assisting low-income families become more economically self-sufficient and increasing affordable housing across the city,” Guzman said.
Guzman was newly appointed to the Opportunity Home San Antonio Board of Commissioners by Mayor Ron Nirenberg in December 2019.
“There is a growing need to increase the supply of affordable housing in San Antonio, and I’m grateful for the leadership Dr. Guzman and Commissioner Weaver will provide in implementing recommendations provided in the Mayor’s Housing Policy Task Force report,” Mayor Nirenberg said.
Weaver has served on the Board of Commissioners since March 2016.
“I look forward to collaborating with Dr. Guzman to advance the agency,” Weaver said. “Opportunity Home has been recognized with a number of accolades, and I look forward to helping it maintain this status and provide the best services for residents.”
Opportunity Home is managed by President and CEO David Nisivoccia with an innovative executive team and with the guidance of seven Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor of San Antonio.
