Showered with confetti and praised for their academic success, 20 college-bound students across San Antonio received a scholarship up to $1,500 from the Education Investment Foundation and a free laptop to begin their higher education journey.
The students are from families who are receiving housing assistance from the Opportunity Home San Antonio, and who, on average, earn about $12,000 annually.
A scholarship removes a financial barrier, and a free computer ensures students can attend college equipped for their studies. Each year, the foundation incentivizes children to achieve high academic honors by awarding academic achievement awards and scholarships to high performing students.
Most of the awardees are first-generation college students who say they are excited to change the prejectory of their lives and to accomplish their dreams.
Today’s celebration is part of the housing authority’s month-long campaign to raise $70,000 for education initiatives the Education Investment Foundation and ConnectHomeSA are leading in the city and to celebrate the impact of an education. To learn more and to donate, visit homesa.org/education.
