The Opportunity Home Board of Commissioners elected Gabriel L. Lopez as its new chairman on Aug. 2 following a unanimous vote during the organization’s monthly board meeting.

Lopez, a native of San Antonio and local affordable housing developer, will serve as chair for at least a two-year term and will oversee an existing $1 billion affordable housing pipeline in San Antonio.

“Quality and affordable housing continues to affect the economic growth potential of San Antonio and Opportunity Home has a unique responsibility to address this issue for the most vulnerable in our city,” said Lopez, who currently serves as the business development manager for Jordan Foster Construction. “I appreciate Mayor Nirenberg’s leadership in building up the affordable housing stock in our city and look forward to working with our housing partners, including the City of San Antonio, Housing Commission, nonprofit and private sector partners and community leaders, to take bold action to address the affordable housing crisis affecting our city.”

Lopez, who formerly served as vice chair and was first appointed to the board in 2019 and again in 2021, brings extensive housing and business development experience to the organization’s leadership. Previously, he was president and secretary of the Shenandoah Homeowners Association and a board member with the San Antonio Housing Trust Foundation for six years. A commercial development strategist, Lopez has contributed to business development efforts for more than $3 billion in new and existing Texas markets.

“I congratulate Gabriel on his new role on the board and look forward to working with him and members of the Board of Commissioners to implement the organization’s strategic plan to ensure we are delivering equitable and compassionate programs and services to our families,” said Ed Hinojosa, Jr., President and CEO, Opportunity Home San Antonio.
