Opportunity Home Lands $250,000 Grant to Enhance Safety at Public Housing Communities

Oct. 11, 2022

Opportunity Home San Antonio will soon be able to bolster safety at a number of its Public Housing communities in the near future thanks to a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The organization received the Fiscal Year 2022 Emergency Safety and Security funds on Oct. 5, which will go toward purchasing surveillance cameras and lighting equipment for Villa Tranchese, Springview and Opportunity Home’s elderly and disabled communities. By installing these features, Opportunity Home is hoping to reduce crime in and around the communities.

“We are grateful to receive these much-needed funds that will go toward bolstering the safety of our communities,” Opportunity Home President and CEO Ed Hinojosa, Jr. said. “By enhancing the safety of these communities, our residents can enjoy a better quality of life and be able to sleep better at night.”

Opportunity Home was one of 60 public housing organizations throughout the U.S. to receive HUD funds to bolster safety in their communities.
