Opportunity Home Launches New Resident Advisory Board to Elevate Resident Voices
Opportunity Home San Antonio has launched its first-ever Resident Advisory Board, a new initiative created to empower residents from across its housing programs to play an active role in shaping the organization’s future.
The 15-member board — comprising residents from Opportunity Home’s Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher program — will meet monthly to work with organization leadership to identify strategies and solutions that strengthen affordable housing delivery and enhance supportive services for families across its communities. The inaugural meeting was held today at Opportunity Home’s Central Office.
“The Resident Advisory Board reflects our belief that residents are not just participants in our programs — they are partners in shaping their communities,” said Susan Ramos-Sossaman, Director of Community Development Initiatives at Opportunity Home. “Their insights and lived experiences help us design better services, build trust and ensure our efforts truly meet the needs of the families we serve.”
Participants will have a formal platform to share ideas, provide feedback and offer recommendations on how Opportunity Home can enhance its services and deepen connections within neighborhoods. Their collective input will help guide the organization’s long-term strategy as it advances toward its 100th anniversary in 2037, focused on delivering modern, equitable and sustainable housing solutions.
Applications for the inaugural board opened in May, with members selected in September based on their commitment to community engagement and availability to participate in monthly meetings. Beyond influencing Opportunity Home’s policies and programs, members will gain hands-on experience in civic engagement, leadership and collaboration — skills that can inspire future careers in community development and public service.
By establishing this advisory board, Opportunity Home continues to champion resident-centered leadership, ensuring that the voices of those it serves remain at the forefront of decision-making and innovation in affordable housing.
