Opportunity Home Board Names Public Affairs Executive as Acting President and CEO

The Opportunity Home San Antonio Board of Commissioners has named Michael Reyes as acting president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Opportunity Home San Antonio, effective June 12.
This decision comes at a pivotal moment as the organization seeks to drive forward its mission of providing quality affordable housing and building sustainable, thriving communities.
In this new role, Reyes will oversee the operations of Opportunity Home, including the implementation of strategic initiatives that will enhance the organization’s capacity to serve the community. Key priorities include increasing affordable housing options, preserving public housing, strengthening partnerships and improving the overall quality of services provided to residents.
“The Board of Commissioners has full confidence in Reyes’ ability to lead Opportunity Home through this transformative period,” said Gabriel Lopez, chair of Opportunity Home Board of Commissioners. “We believe that he will bring innovative approaches and decisive actions that are crucial to addressing the current local housing crisis and ensuring the financial sustainability of our organization.”

Prior to his appointment, Reyes served as Public Affairs Officer on the Executive Leadership Team at Opportunity Home San Antonio. He was responsible for local, state and federal government relations, reputation management, and community relations.
Reyes brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to Opportunity Home’s values and goals. A former resident of the Alazán-Apache Courts, he holds more than 24 years of national and international public affairs experience. He previously served in the United States Congress, working closely with the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and congressional committees, alongside roles at the Government Accountability Office and the Congressional Budget Office. He also served at an international, anti-poverty organization where he managed a $1 billion congressional allocation and oversaw external affairs in the U.S., coordinating with the White House, U.S. State Department, U.S. Congress, World Bank Group, non-governmental organizations, diplomatic corps, academia and building public-private partnerships.
Currently, Reyes serves as a commissioner on the City of San Antonio’s Housing Commission and participates in the first Reframing Housing cohort hosted by the San Antonio Area Foundation. His work has been recognized with several national housing awards from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.
Reyes holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Southern Methodist University (Dallas) and a Master of Arts in Social Public Policy from Georgetown University (Washington, DC). He completed executive education coursework at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, London School of Economics and Political Science, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
