The Texas chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) has selected Opportunity Home San Antonio (Opportunity Home) President and CEO Ed Hinojosa, Jr., as an inductee into its 2022 Hall of Fame class.

Hinojosa was honored during the Texas NAHRO’s Annual Conference on May 12 in Austin. The Opportunity Home executive earned the distinction based on his exemplary and compassionate leadership in 2021, in which he helped Opportunity Home families navigate through unprecedented times by extending the organization’s eviction moratorium to March 2022 and protecting families from losing their homes. Opportunity Home was one of the first housing authorities in the country to introduce the eviction protection in March 2020 and one of a few to continue the moratorium through 2022. Under Hinojosa’s leadership, Opportunity Home is also embedding equity into its current policies and operations to address the racial and economic inequalities in the local housing system.

“While I am deeply honored and humbled by my nomination into the Texas NAHRO Hall of Fame, this honor should be shared and celebrated amongst the nearly 600 Opportunity Home staff members who work diligently to create safe and affordable housing for San Antonio families,” said Hinojosa, who was named Opportunity Home President and CEO in July 2021. “When Opportunity Home families faced the toughest of challenges during the most challenging of times, our tremendous and caring staff worked side-by-side with them to provide the resources to thrive and remain in their communities.”

The Texas NAHRO helps 431 statewide Public Housing Agencies, including Opportunity Home, develop professional standards and practices to better serve affordable housing communities through meetings, trainings, seminars and education programs.

Because of their learnings in the Texas NAHRO’s professional development courses, Texas Public Housing Agencies are better equipped to support half a million housing residents through job, education and financial resources.
