Barbara Ankamah Burford, vice president of philanthropy and community impact for Wells Fargo, was officially sworn into the Opportunity Home Board of Commissioners on Aug. 7 during a ceremony held at the organization’s Central Office.

Burford brings to the board more than 20 years of experience administering programs that support small businesses, workforce initiatives, first-time homebuyers, affordable housing, and neighborhood engagement.

“I am tremendously honored to serve on the Opportunity Home Board of Commissioners, and to collaborate with the board to help guide and advance the important work of the organization,” said Burford. “The need for housing in our community is critical and Opportunity Home is at the forefront of providing safe, quality housing for those in need in San Antonio.”

In her current role at Wells Fargo, she oversees philanthropy for the greater San Antonio market and ensures Wells Fargo supports impactful non-profit work in the areas of financial health, sustainability, small business growth and housing affordability.

Burford began her career as the vice president of business development for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and worked with the City of San Antonio for 15 years in various departments, such as the Economic Development Department, where she guided the partnership efforts with various economic development cohorts at the local, state, and regional levels to maximize education and training resources; these initiatives resulted in job growth and workforce viability for San Antonio residents.

Burford also served in leadership roles for the City’s Neighborhood & Housing Services Department, where she successfully managed federally-funded housing programs and supported the delivery of the City’s affordable housing and neighborhood engagement goals.

“Commissioner Burford brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the board,” said Gabe Lopez, board chair. “We look forward to her collaboration and guidance in continuing the critical work of advancing the mission of the organization and positively impacting the lives of our families and communities.”
