Temporary Closure of the Family Public Housing Waitlist Effective May 27, 2025

Beginning Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Opportunity Home San Antonio will temporarily close the Family Public Housing Waitlist. This waitlist currently includes close to 49,000 applicants and is designated for households with a head of household under the age of 62 and/or with children.

Why is the waitlist closing?
Closing the waitlist will allow our team time to focus on processing existing applicants already on the list. Currently, the average wait time for Family Public Housing is approximately four years. 

What does this mean for current applicants? 
If you applied before the closure, your application remains active. Your position on the waitlist will stay the same based on your original application date. You do not need to reapply. 

Can I apply during the closure? 
No. We will not accept new applications for the Family Public Housing Waitlist while it is closed. Applications will be accepted once the waitlist reopens. 

When will the Family Public Housing Waitlist reopen? 
We will announce the reopening date in the future. Please visit homesa.org/ph-waitlist regularly for updates.

Are other Opportunity Home waitlists still open? 
Yes. The following Opportunity Home waitlists remain open:

  • Elderly/Disabled Public Housing Waitlist
    For households where the head of household is at least 62 years old or has a documented disability.
  • 504 Accessible Public Housing Waitlist
    For households that require an accessible unit.

    Applicants for these waitlists will be placed in line based on the date their application is received.

    • Family Public Housing Waitlist
      For families of all sizes.
    • Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Waitlist
      This is a separate program for housing assistance using a rental voucher.
