Chief Information Officer

Jo Ana Alvarado is a seasoned Information Technology executive with over 40 years of experience leveraging technology to drive business innovation. As Chief Information Officer, Alvarado is responsible for all information technology operations, applications support, service delivery, cyber security, project management, and business relationship functions for 20 diverse departments with over 600 employees. Alvarado leads Opportunity Home San Antonio’s digital transformation efforts, including implementing AI and other emerging technologies.

Alvarado is a champion for digital inclusion. She led her team to win third place in a nationwide Mozilla and National Science Foundation challenge by combining solar and Wi-Fi mesh technology to provide internet access to low-income families in public housing. During the pandemic, she led her team to bring Wi-FI connectivity to 74 Opportunity Home Public Housing and Affordable Housing Communities properties.

The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials has awarded Alvarado and her team Awards of Merit for their work in digital transformation. They also received the National Award of Excellence for implementing a Cyber Security Awareness campaign and the National Award of Excellence for the AI Education and Enlightenment series.
