Cross-Sector Housing Leaders Examine Policy, Financing and Stability at Opportunity Home’s 2026 Affordable Housing Outlook

Opportunity Home San Antonio convened housing leaders and community partners on Feb. 27 for its 2026 Affordable Housing Outlook, a housing policy symposium examining the evolving pressures and opportunities shaping San Antonio’s housing system.

Held at the San Antonio Board of Realtors, the event brought together nonprofit leaders, developers, municipal officials and national policy experts to explore how growth, development dynamics and financing realities intersect across the housing continuum.

Participating organizations included Close to Home, SAMMinistries, the City of San Antonio, the San Antonio Board of Realtors, The University of Texas at San Antonio, Centro San Antonio, Able City, OCI Development, Towne Twin Village, Haven for Hope, Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, Community Housing Resource Partners, the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and LISC San Antonio.

Discussions spanned the full housing continuum — from homelessness and supportive housing to rental affordability, urban development and pathways to homeownership. Panelists emphasized that housing challenges are not isolated to one segment of the market. Supply constraints, service capacity and financing structures all influence long-term stability for individuals and families.

Speakers also highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration across public, private and nonprofit sectors to ensure solutions reflect both market conditions and community priorities.

“Behind every policy discussion are real families navigating real circumstances,” said Michael Reyes, president and CEO of Opportunity Home. “When we bring diverse voices together to examine these realities honestly, we strengthen our ability to respond thoughtfully and responsibly as our city continues to grow.”

The symposium concluded with a shared commitment to continued dialogue and coordinated action in support of long-term housing stability throughout San Antonio.
