Opportunity Home Expands Affordable Housing in San Antonio
It is with great excitement that we share Opportunity Home recently acquired the Amara Apartments in City Council District 8.
This marks our first property acquisition, a pivotal addition to Opportunity Home’s Affordable Housing Communities Portfolio, bringing affordable housing units in a high-economic zone that doesn’t traditionally offer affordable housing options.
Located at 19327 Talavera Ridge, Amara was built in 2019. It features 308 total units across nine buildings. Under Opportunity Home’s ownership, 50% of the units—specifically 154 units—will be designated as Local Non-traditional (LNT) units for households earning 80% or below of the area median income (AMI). The remaining 154 units will be market-rate. This strategic conversion from a market-rate property to a mixed-income community is a key part of Opportunity Home’s mission.
Amara will provide residents with comfortable and easy access to high volume jobs in the area – hospitality, retail customer service, medical, etc. The acquisition was made possible through Move to Work funds, which specifically cover the cost of the units designated for affordable housing. The partnership with Lynd Company, a third-party management firm, will oversee the property’s daily operations.
Amara Apartments boasts a variety of community amenities, including a swimming pool, fitness center, business center, pet park, library, and gaming room, enhancing the quality of life for all residents. The property includes a mix of 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom units.
With this acquisition, we are not just adding to our housing portfolio; we are creating a vital pathway to economic stability and a better quality of life for our residents. As Lorraine Robles, Chief Real Estate and Development Officer at Opportunity Home, stated, “This acquisition is a major win for our community.” The new development will provide much-needed workforce housing, ensuring that people who work in the community can also afford to live there.
This initiative provides more than just a place to live—it provides residents with a genuine choice and the opportunity to thrive in a neighborhood that previously had no affordable housing options.
